What to expect

Initial telephone consult

In this initial 20-min call I will ask about your child’s situation, suggest possible options and explain the fees. Once you have had opportunity to consider the options, you can contact me if you would like to arrange an assessment appointment.

Location

Assessment appointments take place at the Child and Family Practice in Bloomsbury, London.

Assessments

Before the assessment I will gather information from you regarding your concerns, your child’s developmental/ learning progress and your observations about your child’s strengths and difficulties. I will review recent reports and I also use standardised questionnaires.

Face to face assessments with the child/ young person typically last between 3 and 5.5 hours depending on the question, areas being assessed and age of the child. The assessments use well established measures to examine different areas of developmental, cognitive, and academic functioning. Depending on your child’s age the assessments will involve a variety of activities (which may resemble puzzles, quizzes or more academic work). For younger children, more play-based assessments are used.

If appropriate and with your agreement I will contact your child’s school.

Feedback

Once the assessment is complete I will provide a video feedback session where I will explain the findings and give recommendations tailored to your child’s specific needs. A detailed written report of the assessment is then provided.

I can also arrange to discuss the findings and recommendations with your child’s school if you feel this would be helpful.
